Scene secured at Perry High School, at least one child dead in shooting

UPDATED 5 p.m. EST A sixth grade student was killed in a mass shooting at Perry High School in Iowa, per an NBC News report. Additionally, four other students and a school administrator were injured in the shooting.

UPDATED 11:25 a.m. EST — According to multiple law enforcement officials, the shooter at Perry High School in Iowa is believed to be dead and may have been a student at the school. NBC said the shooter was a teen who appears to have acted alone.

NBC News cited the officials who were briefed on the matter, saying he suffered a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Two students and an administrator are believed to be among those injured, officials added. One of the injuries may be fatal but the investigation is ongoing.

UPDATED 11:10 a.m. EST — Law enforcement officials have confirmed that at least one person was killed and others injured in a shooting at Perry High School in Iowa.

Officials briefed on the situation shared the news with ABC News.

The scene has also been reported as “secured,” by officials in Dallas County, Iowa.

UPDATE 10:45 a.m. EST — A hospital spokesperson for MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center confirmed with NBC News that victims from the shooting are being transported there for medical assistance.

The number of victims injured in the shooting is still not known.

Ambulances and helicopters have been dispatched to the scene.

Original Story — The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that there is an active shooting investigation at Perry High School in Perry, Iowa. Multiple law enforcement agencies have responded to the scene.

Officials have not shared if there was anyone injured or if a suspect has been detained in the shooting at this time.

Ambulances and state trooper vehicles have been seen at the high school, and a lockdown has been put in place, according to those at the scene.

The Perry Police Department has confirmed the shooting inside the school, but offered no further details.

The Board President of the Perry Community School District called the news of the shooting “terrible” in a statement on the incident.

"It is horrendously awful," she said. "People need to figure out their life. This is just disgusting. It's terrible."
