The FBI has reportedly launched an investigation after suspicious packages containing white powder were found at several businesses in California, including the Lionsgate headquarters building in Santa Monica.
The package at Lionsgate was discovered Thursday afternoon in the first-floor mailroom, Deadline reported. The local police and fire departments, along with a HAZMAT crew and the FBI responded to the scene.
"We responded to assist with a report of a suspicious package containing white powder," Santa Monica Police Lt. Erika Aklufi told the Santa Monica Observer. "The substance was collected by the Fire Department."
Several firemen wearing HAZMAT suits removed the package and tested the powder, which was determined to be non-threatening, according to The Ankler.
Similar packages were reportedly delivered to about two dozen businesses in the area, Deadline reported.
Lionsgate and the FBI have yet to comment on the situation.
