Police in Florida arrested two men who were allegedly street racing on the Florida turnpike over the weekend, with one of the men going as fast as 199 mph.

Orange County deputies arrested 20-year-old Luis Alejandro Lozano-Figueroa and 19-year-old Mario Alberto Paz Gil.

The deputies were able to arrest the two men Sunday afternoon after their car was clocked on Sunday morning, traveling more than 199 mph.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office shared that it received reports of the street takeover and vehicles street racing shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday.

Among the several cars reportedly racing were a red Chevrolet Camaro and a black vehicle that was seen drag racing side by side, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Fox35.

The Miami Herald reported that a deputy saw the two vehicles at a stop light before they started racing.

“When the light turned green the first two cars ... began drag racing by accelerating speeds from a point side by side in a competitive attempt to outdistance each other,” the affidavit reports.

The vehicles took off south on the Turnpike, where deputies said that the car hit almost 200 mph in a 70 mph zone.

The driver was later identified as the 20-year-old, who was arrested on a charge of racing on a highway. Paz-Gil was also arrested for knowingly riding as a passenger during street racing on a highway, the documents said.

“The vehicle was registered to the driver’s father and was released to the registered owner at the scene,” the sheriff’s office said.

A 16-year-old passenger was later released to their mother, while Paz Gil and Lozano-Figueroa were booked into Osceola County Jail.

The sheriff’s office also shared that it made 157 arrests, seized 54 vehicles, and issued 1,290 citations related to dangerous and illegal street racing.

“This isn’t the first operation we’ve done, and it certainly won’t be the last,” the sheriff’s office said in a post to X. “We have ZERO TOLERANCE for street racing here in Orange County.”

Street takeovers, street racing, and stunt driving are illegal under Florida law. Other actions banned include drifting, burnouts, wheelies, donuts, and drag racing.
