Police in Uvalde, located 85 miles west of San Antonio, says a man with a gun has been arrested after causing a lockdown at a local elementary school.
Uvalde police say the person was taken into custody shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Uvalde Consolidated ISD says an active shooter had been reported at Robb Elementary School, which has an enrollment of just under 600 students. CBS News is reporting a teacher has been shot on the campus. No word on the extent of his injuries.
Uvalde Memorial Hospital said in a Facebook post that it was caring for "several students" in its emergency room, but it did not detail the nature or severity of their injuries.
Earlier, the district said that all schools in the district were locked down because of gunshots in the area. All students were being taken to the Civic Center where parents were to be given the all-clear before being allowed to pick them up.
