While some people are threatening to move north to Canada to escape another four years of President-elect Donald Trump, they may want to look a little farther -- to Denmark.
Newcomers to the Greater Copenhagen Region can now enroll in "Life Quality Insurance," a campaign that guarantees your happiness after you make the move. If living there doesn't improve your quality of life as much as you expected, Greater Copenhagen Region will help you move back home.
"We're so confident that people will fall in love with life in Greater Copenhagen Region that we are willing to walk the talk," spokesperson Asbjørn Overgaard said in a statement. "If you move here and find that – against all odds – it isn't for you, we'll help you get back home."
The Greater Copenhagen Region, which covers Eastern Denmark and Southern Sweden, consistently finishes at the top of global life quality surveys like the United Nations' World Happiness Report. According to the 2024 edition, Denmark is the second happiest country in the world with a score of 7.583, behind only Finland (which scored 7.741). By comparison, the U.S. is ranked as the world's 23rd happiest country with a score of 6.725.
Particular praise is given to the region's work-life balance, tolerant and trusting society, and exciting career opportunities. It's a "winning formula" for a happy life that the country believes everyone should be able to try, no matter how risk-averse.
