On Friday morning, three Americans were found dead at a Sandals resort in the Bahamas, and a fourth was hospitalized, officials reported.

In a statement released on Twitter, Bahamas Acting Prime Minister Chester Cooper shared that police are actively investigating the deaths.

The statement added that "foul play is not suspected" in the deaths of the Americans — two men and a woman.

The Americans were found by staff at the Sandals Emerald Bay in Exuma, who contacted police at the George Town station just after 9 a.m. Friday, the Royal Bahamas Police Force reported.

The first man was found unresponsive on the floor of his bedroom in his villa, and a second man and woman were found unresponsive in another villa at the resort, police said.

The second man was found in a bathroom, and the woman was on a bed in the bedroom, police reported in their statement.

The police agency reported that neither of the "individuals showed signs of convulsion," and there were "no signs of trauma found" with any of the three. All three were pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.

The man and woman in the second villa had reportedly gone to a medical facility to receive treatment for an illness they had complained about the night before, police said. After getting treatment, they returned to their villa and were found the following day.

The fourth person found, a woman, was airlifted to a hospital in Nassau, Cooper shared. Her condition and reason for being hospitalized are not currently known.

Health Minister Michael Darville shared on Twitter that the incident is an isolated case involving the four tourists and that the public is not in danger.

The deaths were confirmed by Sandals Resorts, who said in a statement the "health emergency was initially reported," and local authorities were alerted.

"Nothing is more important to Sandals Resorts than the safety of our guests," the Sandals statement said. "We are actively working to support both the investigation as well as the guests' families in every way possible during this difficult time. Out of respect for the privacy of our guests, we cannot disclose further information at this time."

The situation and investigation by local police are being "closely" monitored by the U.S. State Department. The department also said it is "ready to provide all appropriate consular assistance."

The cause of death has yet to be determined, and the identity of the guests has not been made public by the authorities.
