He's famous for playing a dad in TV sitcoms. Now, Tim Allen is going viral for making a dad joke at the president's expense.
On Monday, the 69-year-old actor went to Twitter following President Joe Biden's appearance on "60 Minutes." Allen, one of Hollywood's few outspoken conservatives, took a dig at the 79-year-old president.
"Biden was on 60 minutes. I heard he asked how long the show was," Allen wrote.
The tweet was liked by more than 131,000 people and retweeted by more than 19,000 users.
Some people may have laughed at the joke but others criticized Allen, best known for his roles as Tim Taylor in the sitcom "Home Improvement" and Scott Calvin in the movie "The Santa Clause."
"Hey Tim, stay in your lane. Joe has done much more for working class people, like the guy you used to play then TFG. Maybe your personal political thoughts should be just that, personal," said @RosalieWeber8.
"You were funny before you started expressing your political beliefs. Now you are just irrelevant," said @JustGal.
"I think the funniest thing Tim Allen has done in the last 20 years is assume that he's still in any way relevant," said @TimmyTwoShirts.
Some thought the joke fell flat, while others tried to be a little witty themselves.
"That was funny? Was that one of your best? Career's not doing too well I presume," said @CharlesXHawtrey.
"Based on my calculations, the show is an hour longer than your career now," @tonyposnanski said.
"60 Minutes is 43 minutes long, my dude," quipped @What46HasDone.
Others took a moment to remind Allen of his not-so-savory past. In 1978 he was arrested for drug trafficking after being caught with more than a pound of cocaine at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Michigan. He avoided a potential life sentence by naming other drug dealers, according to Time magazine.
"Fun fact: Tim Allen got arrested with a pound and a half of cocaine, then ratted out his dealers to get a reduced sentence," said @Praying4Meteor.
With all the trolling, Allen did receive some comments of support.
"I'm baffled that anyone thinks this is remotely offensive or unfunny. People need to Lightyear up. Thanks, Tim, for your humor and presence. I've been showing my kids Home Improvement during some pretty difficult times, and your show has replaced tears with laughter," said @ThruBigScreen.
"I’m pretty sure Biden would laugh at this. It was a tame joke in the spirit of what Johnny Carson would say in his monologues," @OGwease88 said.
"I voted for the man and I still thought this was funny. Feels a bit like a dad joke, but I still chuckled. But let's all remember It's a joke. Does anyone recall what those are? Lot of people here don't seem to," said @malbane.
