Trump and Biden both say they're ready to debate

Even though former President Donald Trump wouldn’t step on a debate stage with fellow Republicans, he has been eager to go head-to-head with President Joe Biden.

He declared again Friday that he wants to debate Biden in a Truth Social post.

“LETTER TO JOE: Dear Joe, now that you’ve committed to Debate on the now dying Howard Stern Show, no less, let’s set it up right now,” he said, referring to Biden’s comments from last month. “I’m ready to go anywhere that you are. We could do it in D.C., even pinpoint the White House, or in New York when your Radical Left Fascists are finished with ELECTION INTERFERENCE against your Political Opponent, ME.”

Trump has described his ongoing legal challenges – including a “hush money” trial currently underway in New York City – as “election interference” often. At the same time, some of those legal challenges are related to his unsubstantiated claims that election interference cost him the 2020 election to Biden.

Last month, Audacy reported that TV networks were ready to beg the candidates to participate in a televised debate.

With both men already expected to be their 2024 major party candidates ahead of the Republican and Democratic national conventions this summer, some debates scheduled by the nonprofit Commission on Presidential Debates organization. These are set to be held at colleges across the nation: a Sept. 16 debate in San Marcos, Texas; an Oct. 1 debate in Petersburg, Va.; and a third on Oct. 9 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

However, it seems that the president might be open to taking up Trump’s challenge to debate sooner rather than later. During an event honoring the 2023 WNBA Champions, the Las Vegas Aces, a reporter asked Biden when he would debate Trump.

“Set it up,” Biden said.
