Trump ends Secret Service protection for Hunter and Ashley Biden

President Donald Trump shared on Monday that he has revoked Secret Service protection for former President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and his daughter, Ashley Biden, “effective immediately.”

Trump shared that he was eliminating protection details for the Biden children, noting that Hunter Biden was vacationing in South Africa, where his wife is from.

“Hunter Biden has had Secret Service protection for an extended period of time, all paid for by the United States Taxpayer. There are as many as 18 people on this Detail, which is ridiculous!” Trump shared on Truth Social. “Likewise, Ashley Biden, who has 13 agents, will be taken off the list.”

In a statement, Secret Service chief of communications Anthony Guglielmi said the agency was “aware of the President’s decision to terminate protection for Hunter and Ashley Biden. The Secret Service will comply and is actively working with the protective details and the White House to ensure compliance as soon as possible.”

Historically, Secret Service protection for a president’s family ends when the leader departs from the White House. Former presidents and their spouses receive protection from the agency for life.

Biden had extended protection for his children through July in an executive order, but now Trump has ended the service details early, according to CBS News.

According to the outlet, Trump had done the same for his four adult children and two of their spouses before he left the White House in 2021, multiple sources shared. Those protection details lasted an additional six months.

By law, the agency was required to protect Trump’s youngest son, Barron, until his 16th birthday.

The Biden family has not commented on the move from Trump.
