In a post to his social media site on Sunday, former President Donald Trump questioned why he would participate in a debate on ABC News despite previously agreeing to face off against Vice President Kamala Harris on the network.
“I watched ABC FAKE NEWS this morning, both lightweight reporter Jonathan Carl’s(K?) ridiculous and biased interview of Tom Cotton (who was fantastic!), and their so-called Panel of Trump Haters, and I ask, why would I do the Debate against Kamala Harris on that network?” Trump wrote in a post to Truth Social.
The comments were in regards to ABC News’ panel and interview host Jonathan Karl conducted with Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) on the network’s show “This Week.”
In his rant on Truth Social, Trump said that “This Week” panelist Donna Brazile gave the Clinton campaign advance notice about town hall questions when then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton faced off against Trump.
He suggested that something similar might be done this time around with Harris. He also questioned whether ABC’s George Stephanopoulos would be involved, as he is currently going through litigation with him.
“They’ve got a lot of questions to answer!!!” Trump wrote. “Why did Harris turn down Fox, NBC, CBS, and even CNN? Stay tuned!!!”
The Sept. 10 debate between Harris and Trump is a fill-in for a previously agreed to matchup against President Joe Biden on the same network and day.
While Trump has pushed for additional debates on Fox News and NBC News, the Harris campaign said it would only agree to the ABC News debate before locking in other matchups.
Trump has not officially said he will not participate in the Sept. 10 debate, which is scheduled to be held in Philadelphia and be hosted by David Muir and Linsey Davis, according to ABC News.
