After a weekend of turmoil for the Biden campaign following his performance at last week’s debate, former President Donald Trump isn’t slowing down as he continues to pounce on his 2024 rival.
While speaking with Audacy’s WRVA, the former president touched on the debate, saying he was “a little surprised” with how the CNN moderators were treating him, saying they “treated me fairly, and I appreciate that.”
Trump was asked if he thought President Biden would drop out of the race as there are growing calls within his own party to step aside. However, the former president didn’t say one way or another, instead noting that “whether it’s him or somebody else,” he was going to show up.
“If you listen to the professionals that do this stuff, they say it’s very hard for anybody else to come into the race,” Trump said. “And if he doesn’t want that to happen, then it can’t happen because he has the votes. You know, he’s got he’s got all these delegates. But the debate was bad for him and showed he’s grossly incompetent.”
When asked further about the possible replacements for Biden, Trump said the only person they could choose would be Vice President Kamala Harris.
“They say the only one they could choose is Kamala because of… what that would represent to the black population. That they would be extremely upset if that didn’t happen,” Trump said.
However, the former president noted that he didn’t think the vice president “improved the numbers” much better than her current boss.
When asked about other names, such as California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and more, Trump says that Biden still performs better than all of them.
“The polls show that Biden does better than the people they’re talking about using to replace him. It’s a strange phenomenon, isn’t it? Because I can’t imagine who would vote for this guy. With the damage he’s done to our country,” Trump said.
While Biden was criticized for being hoarse, shaky, and lost during the debate, Trump was slammed for lying during the debate.
The former president shot down the criticism, saying that it was just a “line” being used to try and show Biden did a better job than he did.
“I didn’t lie. I tell the truth. The country is in dire trouble,” Trump said. “We have millions of people coming into our country that shouldn’t be here, including from jails and mental institutions all over the world, not just South America. All over the world, jails and mental institutions are being emptied out into our country. And we’re going to deport them. We’re going to get them out fast. But, no, there was no lies. They lied. Biden lies. You know, Biden lies. His whole life is a lie.”
The former president went on to share more about the upcoming election. To hear what he said, listen here or on the Audacy app.
