While speaking before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday, a former Twitter employee shared that President Donald Trump’s White House asked the social media company to remove a 2019 tweet from Chrissy Teigen that insulted him.
Anika Collier Navaroli previously served as a senior expert for Twitter’s US Safety Policy Team, and on Wednesday, he spoke with lawmakers on the committee about the request.
On Sept. 9, 2019, Teigen tweeted that the then-president was “a pussy ass bitch” after Trump alluded to her in a tweet criticizing her and her husband, musician John Legend, but didn’t tag her.
Navaroli shared that the White House reached out to Twitter shortly after the exchange, wanting the tweet from Teigen removed.
“I do remember hearing that we had received a request from the White House to make sure that we evaluated this tweet and that they wanted it to come down because it was a derogatory statement directed towards the president,” Navaroli said.
However, Twitter declined to take down the tweet.
After the testimony from Navaroli was given, it was quickly shared on social media, garnering a response from the culprit herself.
“Oh my god,” Teigen wrote in a quote tweet of the testimony.
Trump’s team has not commented on the testimony.
