At least two people are recovering after being injured in separate shootings near Georgia State University in downtown Atlanta Sunday night.

Both shootings are related to street racing incidents -- which sent a crowd of people running in panic when gunfire rang out, WAGA-TV reported.

The first shooting happened just before 10 p.m. outside the university's Piedmont Central dormitory, at Piedmont Avenue and John Wesley Dobbs Avenue. Police told WAGA that a man was shot after getting caught in the crossfire between two groups. One of the bullets shattered the window of the student housing building, according to the report.

The university confirmed the shooting and said the victim is not affiliated with the school. His current condition is unknown.

According to WAGA, the shots rang out as a crowd had gathered to watch and participate in street racing. Rather than disperse after the shooting, the crowd just moved to a second location.

About two hours later, another shooting was reported where the crowd had gathered at the Lanier Parking Lot on John Wesley Dobbs Ave., directly across from the University Commons. The school said the suspect fired shots from a White Jeep Wrangler and fled.

The second victim is also not affiliated with the university, officials said. Their condition is unknown.

The shootings took place in the same area where "hundreds" of people had gathered the night before for street racing, which also led to a shooting in a wild scene that was caught on video, according to reports.

Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, cars were doing donuts and stunts in the middle of the intersection as people in the crowd were seen standing, jumping and dancing on top of other vehicles, according to WSB-TV. At least one shot was fired during the incident, which caused chaos as bystanders fled the area, WSB reported. The gunman and another person were taken into police custody. No injuries were reported.

All three incidents remain under police investigation.
