We've known for months it is a crucial swing state on the road to 270 Electoral votes in 2020. After Donald Trump lead most of the night, Joe Biden's advantage in mail-in and absentee ballots have given him a huge victory in Wisconsin.
The 10 electoral votes, along with Michigan and Nevada, would allow Biden to win the presidency according to current projections. Both Georgia and Pennsylvania are still counting ballots as well, but are not needed by Biden to win.
Trump took Wisconsin over Clinton in 2016 by 22,000 votes. That looks to be the margin that Biden will win the state in 2020, with a 20,000 vote margin being reported Wednesday morning.
With now 99% of the state reporting, Joe Biden has received 1,630,431 votes to 1,609,898 for Donald Trump.
The 99% is because a very small township in central Wisconsin has not reported their 300 votes yet.
It's the early voters that are pushing Biden over the top, especially in the urban areas of the state. Biden overtook Trump in early morning hours when the city of Milwaukee finally reported its roughly 170,000 absentee votes, which were overwhelmingly Democratic. Then returns from Green Bay and the city of Kenosha added to his lead.
The Trump campaign is already asking for a recount in Wisconsin which they are legally allowed to ask for. Former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker notes on Twitter that a recount is very unlikely to change the outcome when there is a spread as high as 20,000 votes.
