Minnesota U-S Senator Tina Smith says President Trump needs to go....now...to ensure our democracy and public safety.

"I think that people all over Minnesota and America are worried about what he might do, for good reason," Smith tells WCCO Radio News.

"He gave a speech to people inviting them to storm the Capitol. So it is a real source of worry and why I think we need to be decisive about this."

Smith says she's calling on Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment, which allows for the removal of a President who is not capable of doing the job.

"I think he should be impeached. I voted to impeach him less than a year ago because I believed that he abused the power of his office. I'm also realistic. There are not that many days left before this administration ends on January 20th. But I think we have to be diligent, and we have to watch, because he's shown he's capable of all sorts of things."

Other Democratic members of the state's congressional delegation also called for the President's removal.

Minnesota Republican members of Congress Michelle Fischbach and Jim Hagedorn voted against certifying the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. WCCO Radio News has reached out to both members of Congress seeking more than just a blanket statement, but they have not responded.
