He keeps testing negative since going behind closed doors earlier this week

Gov. Walz sounds like anyone else who's been forced to quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic.

"Well, I'm with some grumpy teenagers right now, but it's fine," Walz sighed while taking with Dave Lee on the WCCO Morning News in the governor's first interview since beginning his quartantine following exposure to a staffer that tested positive.

"It's the right thing to do," he said, noting that all COVID tests he's taken so far have turned up negative.

A year ago, the governor quarantined for 14 days after one of his security guards tested positive.

This year's exposure, which would have happened at a press conference held at the Mall of America on Monday, highlighted the fact that Walz still has not been vaccinated.

He notes that his age group and health condition haven't come up yet in the phasing-in of COVID vaccines.

"I think we're about ready to put the next group in," said Walz, who turns 57 years old on April 6.

"I've tried in this whole thing to follow the rules that the CDC put out and the guidance we put out to other Minnesotans," he said. "I haven't traveled, I mask up, and I've waited my time. I think I'm soon here."

But, not soon enough to maybe enjoy the first day of spring outside of the Summit Street residence's iron gate.

"I'm ready to get outside, I see everybody is thinking tee times and everything else."

The governor's quarantine was put at ten days when information about the possible exposure came to light, which would keep him inside well into the coming week.
