Whalen joins former head coach of the Washington Mystics Eric Thibault as a new addition to the staff.

Head coach Cheryl Reeve says they will both be important to making the team stronger in the upcoming season.

"What Eric brings to the table in terms of basketball knowledge, his love to be on the court with the players and I think his overall vision for how the game should be played will be great." said Reeve, " You can feel Lindsay's enthusiasm, you know, its palpable. Her passion obviously we know, but to be on the court, to have somebody that's been there and done this at the lead guard position I think is going to be invaluable."

Whalen says she will take the lessons she learned in her time as head coach of the University of Minnesota women's basketball team into her new role.

"Being in that position before and as coach mentioned it's just a lot of those experiences, things that you learn about what to do and what not to do. Pretty much everything from those years, I'll be taking and bringing with me and bring to the staff.

Thibault helped lead the Mystics to nine postseason appearances, including two as head coach, this move marks the beginning of Whalen's WNBA coaching career as an assistant.
