Authorities have not yet identified the armed man who St. Paul police shot and killed Saturday afternoon off west Seventh Street.
An anonymous caller informed police that man was a murder suspect, who was riding on a bicycle.
"Officers in uniform and marked squad cars converged on his location," said St. Paul police sergeant Mike Ernster. "They were doing this with the intent of stopping him and to try to determine if he was Mychal Stowers or not."
There were as many as six officers at the scene, according to Ernster, and he said when they approached the man they saw that he had a gun.
"Officers fired their service weapons, striking him," he said.
The man died at Regions Hospital.
That same anonymous caller earlier had informed police the suspect was at a laundromat on the 1100 block of West Seventh Street just after 1 p.m.
The shooting happened near the intersection of Bay St. and Watson Ave.
No one else was hurt and all officers involved in the incident are now on administrative leave.
As is procedure, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. All of the officers were wearing operating body cameras.
This comes after a nationwide warrant was issued for the arrest of 36-year-old Mychal Stowers.
He's been at large for two weeks in connection with the shooting death of his pregnant ex-wfie before carjacking a car and shooting a second person.
