The countdown is on for a possible strike by school bus drivers and dispatchers for the Minneapolis school district.

The workers say they are not being paid enough and are worried about safety and retention because of a shortage of drivers.

They voted unanimously on Saturday to plan a walkout.

They can't legally go on strike until 45 days after their first mediation session, which is scheduled for December 1.

That means a walkout won't happen at least until mid-January.

Minneapolis schools officials say they are committed to reaching an agreement through mediation, and will make sure that bus service for students is not interrupted.
