A check of the forecast over the next week shows a chance of showers or thunderstorms every day. That comes on the heels of a pretty rain-soaked Thursday and Friday in much of Minnesota.
But how much rain could possibly accumulate? Is there a chance some areas will see 5 to 6 inches as predicted with potential flooding?
Tyler Hasenstein with the National Weather Service weighs-in.
"I would say it's a possibility, but as far as the aerial extent, that would only happen from multiple rounds of thunderstorms," Hasenstein says. "Which, at this point, we're probably looking at late Sunday through maybe midday Tuesday. The area extent would be fairly small, so there might be some localized flooding. But as far as widespread flooding goes, that appears less likely."
He says the area with the most risk right now would be north of the Twin Cities from St. Cloud to northern Wisconsin.
"We'll have a lot of rainfall over kind of the east, central to southeastern part of the state with kind of the heaviest amounts over an area from around St. Cloud through portions of northern Wisconsin, north of the Twin Cities generally," Hasenstein explained. So that would be the area where it would be the risk right now."
WCCO-TV Chief Meteorologist Chris Shaffer says this isn't going to be a wet weekend but there could be a few pockets to look out for after a very wet, windy - and cold - Friday.
"Tomorrow should be dry for a good chunk of the day," Shaffer says. "Mostly cloudy, that should allow us to warm back in the 70s. There will be some scattered showers that pop around evening time. Where they pop is up in the air. There's no threat of severe thunderstorms or anything, but just these little showers that will fire up during the evening hours."
Sunday, late in the day, expect some more storms to fire up.
"Father's Day looks mostly cloudy and I was pouring over some model data this morning and there's better chances of showers than there've been for the past several days," explains Shaffer on the WCCO Morning News. "Not a washout, but certainly something. You want to take a look at a radar before you go out and do something with dear old dad. High of 78."
