Postgame handshakes between head coaches happen after every game in the NFL, but following the Bills' 38-9 win over the New England Patriots on Monday, Sean McDermott and Bill Belichick's stood out to the Buffalo head coach.
It lasted a little longer than usual as it appeared Belichick has a great deal of respect for the job McDermott has done with the Bills, leading them to their first AFC East title since 1995.
"Yeah, I mean, listen, I've been on the other side of it before," McDermott told reporters after the win. "And so he was very complimentary, and I certainly appreciate that. And as you mentioned, a lot of respect for what he's been able to do. So I just think it says a lot about the way we're doing things as an organization, not just on the field what people see, but off the field. It's not just the team I'm talking about. It's the extended team, the way we do things, in ticketing, community relations, the business side of our operation and organization, so I just think it's a standard across the board, not just on the field."
He added: "He's a legend in terms of what he's been able to do, and I certainly appreciate that and I'm humbled by it."
The Bills are currently 12-3 on the year and the No. 2 seed in the AFC. They can lock up the No. 2 seed in the AFC on Sunday with a win over the Miami Dolphins at Bills Stadium in Orchard Park.
