The Bills have become one of the top teams in the NFL over the past few years, and their popularity has gone up as well. High-profile teams usually play in higher-profile games, and Thanksgiving certainly falls into that category.
NFL Vice President of Broadcast Planning Mike North was a guest on the Audacy Original Podcast “It’s Always Gameday In Buffalo”, and revealed when Buffalo fans might see the Bills play this Thanksgiving weekend.
“I would tell you that if our fans were tired of watching the Bills on Thanksgiving, we wouldn’t be doing 30, 35, 38 million people for Bills games on Thanksgiving,” North said with Sal Capaccio and Matt Bove. “Look, God’s honest truth, I’d be surprised if they ended up on Thanksgiving yet again. To tell you it’s an absolute nonstarter wouldn’t be fair.”
While the Bills aren’t slated to play the Detroit Lions this season and will host the Dallas Cowboys at some point, the night game on Thanksgiving would still be a possibility. However, there is a new Black Friday game that could also fit the bill.
“I don’t know that a Thursday night game on NBC is in the cards. My hunch is they’re probably not heading for Thanksgiving this year, but they’re certainly in the conversation for Black Friday,” North continued. “They’ve got some real interesting games that, again, you talk about the first time we’re doing something like this, a national brand, a superstar quarterback, that’s kind of what we’re looking for. They’re certainly in the conversation.”
The Bills do have an interesting list of non-division opponents in 2023, including the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, and Cincinnati Bengals. All three of those opponents would make for a great game on Black Friday.
