A study is confirming what we all know: "Bills Mafia" likes to party.
Buffalo Bills fans are among the heaviest game day drinkers in the NFL, according to Lines.com. The betting website surveyed 1,683 sports fans using research software from Amazon.
The findings show 83% of Bills fans surveyed said they binge drink on game days, ranking fourth in the NFL. Fans for the Atlanta Falcons (86%), Jacksonville Jaguars (86%) and Arizona Cardinals (85%) barely edge them out.
Overall, fans said they consumed an average of 3.7 alcoholic drinks over the course of a game or event. Binge drinking is commonly defined as consuming four or five alcoholic beverages per-occasion. Roughly 49% of NFL fans told surveyors they binge drink when their favorite team plays.
Interestingly enough, New England Patriots fans are the least buzzed in the NFL, with “only” 42% copping to consuming heavy amounts of alcohol on autumn Sundays. But the survey was taken in September of 2020. Maybe a full season of watching Cam Newton changed that.
While there seems to be a predictable correlation between binge drinking and misery — the Jaguars and Cardinals are perpetual losers — we know winning won’t dim the parking lot party in Orchard Park.
After a missed season, there is already a lot of pent up excitement. Now just add a possible Super Bowl to the mix.
Here’s to hoping there are enough tables.
