Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - After a week off for the bye week this past Sunday, the Buffalo Bills returned to the bright lights of prime-time to earn a 27-17 victory over the visiting Green Bay Packers at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.
Although the Buffalo offense was spotty throughout the game, the defense remained strong to help the Bills improve to 6-1 this season and earn a fourth-straight win.
The Bills started off with an uncharacteristic three-and-out on their first drive of the game after receiving the opening kickoff. However, the Packers were unable to get anything done after failing to convert on fourth down in Buffalo territory.
Once the Bills got the ball back at their own 39-yard line, the offense produced much better than its original drive, and it resulted in a touchdown.
The Packers struggled on the offensive side of the ball once again, which gave Allen and the Bills offense another shot following a Green Bay punt.
The Green Bay offense finally got going on their next drive, mainly because of the running back duo of Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillion, who combined for 55 yards and two first downs. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers capped of the drive with a 19-yard pass to wide receiver Romeo Doubs for a touchdown pass, cutting the Buffalo lead to 14-7.
Allen and the Bills answered right back on their next drive just after the two-minute warning.
The Packers offense was finished for the half after their next drive, but the Bills offense was not.
Green Bay started with the ball in the second half and only attempted to throw the ball twice on their first drive. Dillion and Jones combined for massive yardage again, with the longest run coming from Jones for 32 yards.
The Bills started the second half right where they left off. Allen drove the offense down the field with some big help from wide receiver Gabe Davis. After marching down to the 19-yard line, the Bills' drive fizzled out. Bass came out, once again, and nailed a 38-yard field goal.
The relentless ground game from the Packers continued on their next drive with only one pass attempt by Rodgers. The Bills defense came up big once again, stopping the Packers on fourth down for the second time.
Allen threw two interceptions on consecutive drives, and the Packers didn't squander their second opportunity. Rodgers and the offense switched over to the air on this drive, finding rookie wide receiver Samori Toure on a 37-yard pass for his first career touchdown.
The Bills were forced to punt the ball away on their next drive, but the Packers were out of timeouts with little time remaining. Green Bay was unable to score a touchdown, and elected to turn to Crosby for a 55-yard field goal attempt to keep their hopes alive. However, his kick came up short of the upright and missed wide-left.
The Bills knelt out the remaining 38 seconds of the game clock, and earned their sixth win of the season. In addition, Buffalo maintains their lead in the AFC standings, while also beating the Packers for a seventh time in Orchard Park in franchise history.
