Bills, Steelers take part in joint practice in Pittsburgh

Buffalo has some success in the middle of the field on Thursday

Pittsburgh, Pa. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers held their one joint practice on Thursday at Acrisure Stadium ahead of their preseason matchup on Saturday night.

Here’s a rundown of quite a bit that happened:

Josh Allen and the first-team offense started the day with a touchdown pass on the very first play, as the teams worked a goal-line situation. Allen hit running back James Cook for the touchdown.

The next pass was an incompletion to wide receiver Mack Hollins, who was covered well, but Allen came right back to hit tight end Dalton Kincaid for a touchdown on the next play.

Kincaid and fellow tight ends Quintin Morris and Zach Davidson all had strong days overall. Tight end Dawson Knox didn't practice due to groin and ankle injuries.

Wide receiver Khalil Shakir also had a good day catching the ball, as Allen and the first-team offense worked the middle of the field successfully.

One pass over the middle, however, did not go their way when Allen was looking for Marquez Valdes-Scantling. It looked like the quarterback thought Valdes-Scantling was going to sit in the zone where he was, but the receiver kept going. Allen's pass sailed to the vacated area where it was picked off by a Steelers defender.

When the second-team offense took over in the initial goal-line period, center Alec Anderson and quarterback Mitch Trubisky had issues on two-consecutive exchanges, which both resulted in fumbles.

Rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman had an up-and-down day in the 1-on-1 portion of practice.

On his very first rep, Joey Porter Jr. was on him, but the ball was overthrown. Later, Beanie Bishop, Jr. had excellent coverage on Coleman, who couldn't find any space.

But on Coleman's third rep, he put a terrific move on Darius Rush off the line of scrimmage, then blew by him for an easy touchdown thrown by Allen, who came over immediately to congratulate the 2024 second-round pick.
