Emmanuel Sanders has been part of six playoff teams and one Super Bowl winner over his 13-year NFL career, but the veteran wide receiver says the Buffalo Bills are one of the best organizations he’s ever been a part of.
During an appearance on the “Howard and Jeremy Show” on Thursday, Sanders said the Bills ensure their players are in the best physical and mental shape to perform — which isn’t guaranteed around the league.
“They do everything by the book in terms of the diet and staff that cooks our food, the weight room guys. They have built a refuge to get guys ready to play whether it’s nutritionally, physically, mentally,” he said with Howard Simon and Jeremy White on WGR. “They have every resource there for their players in order for us to be successful. You would think that a lot of organizations would have that, but I think the Bills are really trying to win — they’re trying to win a Super Bowl. I’m happy to be a part of it.”
That’s high praise, considering Sanders has played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints during his career — four of the league’s upper-echelon franchises.
Terry and Kim Pegula have invested heavily in building a winning culture, and it shows. The continuity on the team speaks volumes.
It makes it easy for a newcomer like Sanders to become acclimated. While Stefon Diggs instantly gelled with Josh Allen in his first year in Buffalo last season, it took Sanders a couple of weeks. His breakout performance came last Sunday in a 43-21 win over the Washington Football Team, where he reeled in five catches for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
It was only a matter of time.
“When you look at [Diggs’] and Josh’s personalities, they’re two guys who hate losing and just want to go out and play football,” Sanders said. “As long as the guys have that edge on them, and they just want to win, it’s all going to fall into place at some point.”
The Bills are looking to build on their AFC Championship performance from last season and play in their first Super Bowl since the 1993 season. They have the talent do it, but in the end, Sanders knows sometimes you can’t control where the ball bounces.
“I feel like we do have a Super Bowl caliber team, but I always tell people: it’s a lot of winning, it’s a lot of hard work, but there’s some luck in that, too,” he said. “Sometimes when I’m meditating and I’m praying, I ask God to just let the ball bounce in our favor along this journey and try to win a Super Bowl.”
