Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR) - Buffalo Bills defensive back Jordan Hancock returned to practice on Thursday, as the team continued to prepare for their Week 1 opening regular season matchup against the Houston Texans.

Hancock is primarily a backup nickel cornerback, but also offers flexibility at safety, if needed. He missed Wednesday's practice with a quad injury.

Another key depth piece, running back Ty Johnson, was, once again, not present during the portion of practice that was open to the media. Johnson has not practiced since Aug. 8 due to a hamstring injury.

Johnson's absence leaves the team with only three available running backs on the entire 70-man roster, including practice squad. If he is unavailable to play on Sunday, Frank Gore Jr. could be elevated from the practice squad to back up James Cook and Ray Davis.

Also missing on Thursday was defensive tackle T.J. Sanders, who was listed as limited with a knee injury on Wednesday.
