OPINION: Howard Picks the Bills: Week 18

How's Howard feeling about the playoffs with Buffalo locking down the No. 2 seed in the AFC?

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The No. 2 seed in the AFC Playoffs picture is officially locked down by the Buffalo Bills after another dominating performance this past Sunday against the New York Jets at Highmark Stadium.

The Bills offense exploded in the third quarter, putting up 21 points, while the defense put up a strong outing by forcing three total turnovers and kept the Jets off the board until late in the game.

With the win, the Bills tied a franchise record for the most wins in a season with 13, and have a chance to set a new franchise mark heading into the final game of the regular season.

Meanwhile, Sunday's victory at Highmark Stadium gave the Bills a perfect 8-0 record at home, the first time the team finished perfect in the regular season in Orchard Park since 1990.

With noting to play for in the final week of the regular season against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium, Bills head coach Sean McDermott said on Monday that some starters like quarterback Josh Allen will play, but to varying degrees and lengths.

It wasn't too long ago that the Bills faced the Patriots, as Buffalo managed to earn a 24-21 win just two weeks ago, despite a rough start in all three phases of the game.

Even with Week 18 not meaning much for the Bills, it has plenty of meaning for this week's edition of "Howard Picks the Bills"!.

Even with the starters being out for Sunday's matchup, Howard Simon still has the Bills winning in Foxboro, finishing the 2024 campaign with a new franchise mark of 14-3 and sweeping the AFC East.

As the Bills then get ready for the playoffs, Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase then picked the remaining games on the schedule to help set up Buffalo's path in the playoffs.

The path to New Orleans begins in the AFC Wild Card Round with the 2-seed Bills squaring off with the 7-seed Denver Broncos, led by rookie quarterback Bo Nix. That game is a Bills win in Howard's eye, meaning a trip back to the AFC Divisional Round against the Baltimore Ravens.

In the Week 4 rematch between both teams in Orchard Park, Howard sees the Bills exercising some past demons in the Divisional Round, securing a victory and returning to the AFC Championship Game for the first time since 2020.

It wouldn't be the NFL Playoffs without a matchup between Allen and Patrick Mahomes, as the Bills are off to Kansas City to play the Chiefs for the right to play in Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome.

Despite Howard picking against the Bills in this same exact scenario last week, he has the Bills beating the Chiefs this week, earning another win against their heated AFC rival this season at Arrowhead Stadium.

Then in Super Bowl LIX, the scenario laid out by Jeremy and Joe has the Bills matching up against the Minnesota Vikings. It would be a showdown of the two teams that have failed to win a Super Bowl in four trips.

In the showdown of 0-4 teams in Super Bowl history, Howard doesn't foresee the Bills losing a fifth trip to the "Big Game", as he has Buffalo beating the Vikings to win their firstr Super Bowl in franchise history.
