Pittsburgh, Pa. (93.7 The Fan/WGR 550) - Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed on Tuesday that Mason Rudolph will start at quarterback on Sunday afternoon against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York.

Tomlin said during his weekly news conference they will continue with the hot hand and "not disrupting the apple cart."

He says Rudolph has done his job, and so has the team around him.

"We’ve been in some tough circumstances, he’s delivered, we’ve delivered," said Tomlin.

The Steelers head coach also talked about why he thinks Rudolph has been able to make the most of his opportunity.

"He has an unflappable confidence in himself, he’s highly professional," Tomlin said. "He’s always preparing and prepared, and I think that provides the platform for the performances you are seeing."

Tomlin was later asked about Rudolph’s skillset and not just his confidence.

"He’s making good decisions, but he’s working hard from a preparation standpoint, and that preparedness is showing," he added. "There’s a cumulative body of work to speak of too. Mason’s been here a long time, I think that’s a component of it."

Asked why Kenny Pickett is still ahead of Mason Rudolph on the depth chart, Tomlin said, "Would it make you feel better if I did?"

"We’re going about our business cultivating a plan to win this week. We care less about division of labor, in terms of what’s on pieces of paper and depth charts and so forth," Tomlin added.

Rudolph is 3-0 this season while throwing for 719 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions.
