McDermott believes Bills can play better despite clutch victory over Dolphins

Bills head coach Sean McDermott addressed the media following his team's 30-27 victory at Highmark Stadium

Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills have struggled during most of their 2024 campaign to play a full 60 minutes of football. While Sunday was much of the same, the Bills still found a way to come away with a 30-27 victory over the Miami Dolphins at Highmark Stadium.

After trailing the Dolphins, 10-6, at halftime and struggling on both sides of the ball to produce, the defense started the second half with a turnover, leading to an immediate response from the offense to take a 12-10 lead.

From there, both the Bills and Dolphins went back-and-forth, exchanging blows as the clock dwindled away in regulation.

With the game tied at 27-27 and the Bills getting the ball back with 1:38 on the clock, Josh Allen and the offense did just enough to chew off some precious time, while also getting into field goal range for kicker Tyler Bass, who had missed an extra point earlier in the game and nearly another extra point.

Despite his struggled kicking the ball earlier in the season, Bass was sure-footed on his 61-yard field goal attempt, not only helping the Bills to a 30-27 win over their AFC East rival, but also setting a new franchise record in the process.

Despite the dramatic victory, Bills head coach Sean McDermott knows his team could have played much better, and have to get back to playing a consistent 60 minutes of football.

"You saw it. We didn't play a great game. We can be better, and we've got to go back and make sure our techniques are sound," said McDermott during his postgame press conference with the media.

One thing the Dolphins did extremely well with on Sunday to put them in a spot to try and win the game was run all over the Bills, which also allowed the passing game to open up for some key connections when they needed them. McDermott gives Miami credit for bringing some tough competition into their house.

"Fundamentally, we're better than what we were today. Just a lot to improve on," McDermott said. "But when you can win a close one like this, and it's back-and-forth and we didn't have our A-Game; give them credit, they came in here ready to play, and I thought they did a great job with their coaching staff, having that team ready to play."
