Pittsburgh, Pa. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - While it wasn't the best performance from the offense on Saturday, the Buffalo Bills turned to the defense in order to claim victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the team's second preseason game of the year.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott felt the defense came out with a purpose, and understood the game plan on Saturday.
"They understood what they wanted to get done. I though coach [Bobby] Babich and the defensive staff put together a good game. We didn't do a lot, but we allowed our players to play," said McDermott following Saturday's win at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh.
Meanwhile, rookie linebacker Joe Andreessen made quite an impression during Saturday's victory for the Bills. The Lancaster native and University at Buffalo graduate led the Bills with 11 tackles, and looked on top of most everything the Steelers were trying to run throughout the evening.
Andreessen was a tryout during the Bills' rookie minicamp, and was eventually signed to a contract in the offseason.
"When a young guy gets an opportunity and he makes the most of it, it's just fun to watch a young man like that. Especially, a local," McDermott said of the 24-year-old. "I think I met his aunt in the elevator at the hotel, and she was excited and was on the phone with Joe's mom, who just called in at the time. You just love stories like that. Real happy for Joe."
The Bills return home next Saturday to finish out the preseason against the Carolina Panthers at Highmark Stadium.
