The New York Giants hired their general manager on Friday, and they clearly aren’t wasting any time in their head coaching search.
According to SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano, the Giants will have a second interview with Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll on Tuesday. This comes less than 48 hours after Daboll’s Bills were eliminated from the playoffs in the final game of an epic Divisional Round weekend.
This is the first second interview to be rumored for the Giants, with Daboll being one of four candidates known to have gotten a first. He and Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier interviewed via Zoom last week.
Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo interviewed Sunday after his team beat the Tennessee Titans on Saturday afternoon, and Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn was scheduled to interview on Monday.
Daboll and Frazier worked under new Giants general manager Joe Schoen in Buffalo, so they could be seen as having a leg up – and interviewing Frazier also satisfies the Rooney Rule – but Anarumo and Quinn also have ties to either New Jersey or Schoen in some way.
Quinn, the former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, is from Morristown and spent two seasons (2007-08) as the defensive line coach of the New York Jets under head coach Eric Mangini.
Anarumo, meanwhile, is from Staten Island, began his coaching career in 1989 at alma mater Wagner College, and spent six seasons (2012-17) in Miami as the defensive backs coach – years in which Schoen was a scouting director for the Dolphins.
Anarumo is also a former Giants assistant, having spent 2018 as Pat Shurmur’s defensive backs coach before taking the defensive coordinator job in Cincinnati.
The Giants are also rumored to have interest in interviewing current defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores as well, the latter confirmed to have at least been contacted by Giants owner John Mara about the job according to WFAN's Craig Carton.
