Mike White will be under center for the New York Jets on Sunday when they take on the Buffalo Bills in a Week 10 matchup in the Meadowlands, head coach Robert Saleh announced on Wednesday morning.
White, who burst onto the scene with a 405-yard passing performance in his first career start in a Week 8 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, suffered a right forearm injury in New York’s Week 9 blowout loss to the Indianapolis Colts. However, the injury will not keep White from making his third-straight start for the Jets.
Zach Wilson will remain out as he continues to recover from a PCL injury in his knee. Joe Flacco will serve as White's backup on Sunday, ahead of Josh Johnson.
While Wilson will remain out, he did practice on Wednesday, along with White.
White was off to a solid start in the loss to the Colts, but felt discomfort in his right forearm after throwing a touchdown pass in the first quarter. He struggled to grip the ball afterward, but felt he could return to the game in the fourth quarter. The team eventually decided against it with the game already out of reach.
As for what the quarterback landscape will look like when Wilson is fully healthy and ready to return, Saleh still wouldn’t commit to who the starter would be.
Wilson is the Jets' second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and the hopeful franchise quarterback of the future, but has struggled in his rookie season. Meanwhile, White has given the New York offense a jolt, at least before he had to leave last week’s game.
