Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - When the Buffalo Bills face the New England Patriots on Sunday, it may be the last time they see a team coached by Bill Belichick in Foxborough. The six-time winning Super Bowl head coach appears to be on his last legs with the team.
Just how bad have things gotten in New England?
This is the Patriots' worst start to a season in over two decades at 1-5. The New England offense has only scored 20 points in the last three games, and the unit is dead-last in the NFL in several categories.
Patriots fans are restless, calling for the legendary coach's job.
In fact, the owner might be one of the men already thinking about Belichick's time in New England coming to an end. MMQB's Albert Breer reports that owner Robert Kraft has already had discussions about moving on from Belichick.
But before he goes, how about a couple of more Bills-Patriots beat downs? The Bills are favored by 8.5 points, one of the biggest favorites in Week 7.
The Bills, if they're able to have a day on offense, should continue their streak of not having lost in New England over the last four years.
The Patriots-Bills matchup later in the year could have more novelty to it. If the Patriots go 1-8 in their next nine games, which they are very capable of doing, a Bills win could make Belichick the losingest coach of all-time on New Year's Eve.
That is where Belichick is really doing his own legacy significant harm. In the years Belichick has coached since Tom Brady left, he has built a narrative of his inability to win without the Hall of Fame quarterback.
In 175 games without Brady as his quarterback, Belichick's record is 81-94. That's a lot of sample size.
I'd be the first to line up to use this as an argument against Belichick. Many coaches struggle to win big without their star quarterback - see Mike Tomlin and Sean Payton - but few struggle to win like this.
Belichick's win percentage without Brady is below the likes of Rex Ryan and Joe Philbin: AFC East coaches that did not have good quarterback play and still managed to win more than Belichick.
Belichick is a super villain to Bills fans. It's been a lot of fun to watch the Bills destroy the Patriots several times in the last few years.
Enjoy it while it lasts.
