Washington, D.C. (106.7 The Fan/WGR Sports Radio 550) - Did you know that Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas is a strong family friend of the Crews family, and basically considers Washington Nationals phenom Dylan Crews as a Godson, as Dylan considers him a second dad?
If you saw Thomas in the crowd during Crews’ MLB debut wearing a Crews t-shirt, and you’ve been wondering what that relationship is, Grant Paulsen finally found out during the Super Bowl LIX week media frenzy.
"It goes back to 2001, when I was living in Orlando and met Dylan and his parents. My son Thurman III and Dylan have been best friends for the last 20-something years, and it all started in Orlando," Thomas told Paulsen on 106.7 The Fan. "They used to play football and basketball and baseball together, and we’ve followed Dylan's career through LSU and got the chance to see him win the College World Series, and when he got drafted by the Nationals, and just have watched his career take off."
Paulsen heard it himself, and still can’t believe it, and neither can Danny Rouhier.
"It’s the weirdest thing to me. Thurman Thomas, man, just like your neighbor and then just follows you around watching you play college baseball," Grant said.
"I think that's the neatest thing ever. My oldest son, his best buddy lives like five houses away, right? And if he comes over, he can just walk in the front door and didn't have to like knock or whatever, which is one of the cool things about the community we live in," Danny replied. "Like, imagine that kid goes on to be a big leaguer or a pro in whatever sport – it just so happens I’m me, but that’s Thurman Thomas, one of the most slept on great running backs in, in the history of the league. He was a baller, and there's his little godson, Dylan Crews, playing outfield for the Nats. That's neat."
