Von Miller has big day, but injuries starting to mount at Bills training camp

Miller looked very good in his first day of pads

Pittsford, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - If Buffalo Bills fans were wondering how Von Miller's training camp is going, Tuesday likely gave them an answer.

In his first day of pads after a veteran rest day on Monday, Miller clearly had his best practice so far of camp at St. John Fisher University.

Right away in an 11-on-11 period, he got by Spencer Brown on the right side for, what would’ve been, a sack on Josh Allen.

A little later in the session, Miller stayed wide and kept his depth, Allen was flushed to his right, and Miller was in perfect position to have a chance to chase him down from behind.

The team used the day to work on 3rd-and 7 or more yardage to go, so Miller saw plenty of reps in that scenario.

Overall, it was a really good day of going back-and-forth with the offense vs. defense. There were plenty of wins by both sides:

Coleman vs. Elam and Lewis

Another highlight of the day was watching wide receiver Keon Coleman go against cornerback Kaiir Elam several times in both 1-on-1s and during team play.

Coleman started with a terrific win, going high to grab a fade near the back corner of the end zone. Elam actually had terrific coverage, but there was almost nothing he could do with the taller Coleman, who just snagged the ball over top of his head.

A little later, Coleman ran a slant at the goal line. Elam got his body on him. Coleman appeared to slip a bit, and officials threw a penalty flag. It was tough to tell if Coleman slipped first or because Elam bumped him.

Coleman‘s next rep came against Cam Lewis, who had terrific coverage early in the route, getting physical. As Coleman turned one way, the ball was thrown the other and Lewis made a great interception, getting two feet inbounds along the sideline.

During 11-on-11, Allen threw a deep ball down the sideline to Coleman. Elam was in coverage. They were stride for stride for a while, but then Coleman started to separate. Elam grabbed his jersey enough to cause an incompletion and another flag.

Injury update

No practice on Tuesday for safety Mike Edwards (hamstring), running back Ty Johnson (hamstring), wide receiver Chase Claypool (toe), and offensive lineman Mike Edwards (concussion protocol).

During the session, rookie safety Cole Bishop left the field with trainers and did not return. Afterward, he was seen with his arm heavily wrapped.

After practice, offensive lineman Alec Anderson was taken to a local hospital via ambulance due heat-related issues.

The team issued a statement later in the day:

Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones and linebacker Nicholas Morrow both received veteran rest days.
