Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN/WGR Sports Radio 550) - More changes are coming in-and-around KeyBank Center ahead of the upcoming season of Sabres hockey in Downtown Buffalo.
Work is already underway in Alumni Plaza to remove the mural covering the covered walkway that connects KeyBank Center to the adjacent parking garage along Illinois Street. The mural was first put together in 2012, and has remain unchanged for nearly a dozen years.
The mural in Alumni Plaza depicted a collage of past Sabres players over the franchise's history. Among the notable players included at that time were Danny Gare, Mike Ramsey, Phil Housley, Alexander Mogilny, Pat LaFontaine, Dominik Hasek, Michael Peca, Ryan Miller, Jason Pominville, and Tyler Myers.
In the years prior to this mural, the covered walkway saw other images installed, including team photos of the players on the active roster posing along the boards.
It is unclear, at this time, what plans the Sabres may have to replace the mural, or leave the covered walkway untouched.
The Sabres report to training camp in Buffalo on Tuesday before the team's opening practice on Wednesday.
