Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - James Reimer led the way for the Sabres making 33 saves in the 3-0 shutout over Carolina. Reimer has now won seven straight starts for Buffalo. Tage Thompson scored the game winner on his 44th goal of the season and has now scored in five straight games, the longest streak of his career.

The Sabres had a few good chances to score early on, most notably Ryan McLeod who got stopped on an open breakaway and also had an open net, but missed on a backhand hitting the side of the net. Both the Sabres and Hurricanes took one penalty in the first, but neither could score with the man advantage, for a scoreless first period.

It took just over a minute for Tage Thompson to light the lamp in the second as he snapped home a wrister 1:32 into the second period to give Buffalo the 1-0 lead.

Late in the second, the Sabres extended their lead while on the penalty kill as Bowen Byram sprung Alex Tuch on a long pass to make it 2-0. It would be Tuch's league-leading sixth shorthanded goal of the season.

Buffalo would score early in the period again as Jack Quinn fed JJ Peterka to extend the lead to 3-0 just two minutes into the third.

There would be no more scoring as the Sabres held on for 3-0 win. James Reimer earned his 31st career shutout and his first for Buffalo.
