I am a gay white man &amp; while my sexuality has brought with it a lifetime of struggles, I’ve never been afraid of going for a jog or getting pulled over by law enforcement, because I’ve always known inside that although my sexuality has put a target on my back, the color of my skin has always been a much larger shield. . I will marry a black man &amp; I will raise mixed race children that the world will see as black, but those are not the reasons that race issues hit so deeply for me. As an empathetic person, I struggle with the images that I see &amp; the stories I hear every day, because I choose not to turn the other way when injustice is happening in the world. . Racism is not a problem that our black brothers &amp; sisters must fix, because they are not the ones who created the problem. WE (white people) must take the lead. WE need to start having some brutally honest conversations on race in this country &amp; WE need to educate ourselves, so that WE can fight for real change. .
