CA elects first out trans school board member

In more good new for the new year, Bobbie Simpson made history as California's first-ever out and elected transgender school board member. Sworn in at Shasta County's very conservative Gateway Unified School District. Simpson won the election with over 56% of the vote. A mother of two kids in the district, she expressed excitement and pride about serving her community. Simpson aims to focus on alternative learning and helping special needs students meet their educational goals. Despite facing some challenges, she was met with a warm welcome and is ready to make a difference in her four-year term.
