Lesbian and bi-sexual women die significantly earlier than straight women according to a new study -- and it's likely due in part to discrimination.
The paper reviewed decades worth of data beginning in 1989 as part of a series of investigations into risk factor for major, chronic diseases in women.
Compared to participants who identified as straight, the analysis found those who identified as lesbian or bi died 26% sooner, with lesbian women dying 20% sooner and bisexual women 37% sooner.
Although the team expected to see disparities given the existing research on negative health outcomes, they did not expect to see such stark differences.
