NBCOut.com reports the Pentagon has announced new guidelines to remove trans service members unless they are granted a special waiver.

The new rule requires identifying service members with gender dysphoria, disqualifying them from all military roles.

Trans service members could potentially be granted waivers if they meet strict conditions which include demonstrating stability in their birth sex for a minimum of three years.

The policy also prohibits transition-related care, including hormone therapy and surgeries. LGBTQ rights groups have filed a lawsuit, arguing the policy violates equal protection.
