Even as both physical and legislative attacks on the queer community intensify, the Advocate is reporting the 2024 the Municipal Equality in coordination with the HRC have some good news to share when it comes to advancements in city-level policies.

The HRC evaluated 506 cities across the US, examining their laws, policies, and services to gauge their commitment to LGBTQ+ equality. They found a record number cities earned perfect scores— 130 which represents approximately 25% of those surveyed.

The cities with perfect scored demonstrated a commitment to queer inclusivity despite the challenges of all of the bills and laws aimed at discrimination. "For LGBTQ+ people, building community isn't just a phrase, it's a way of life," HRC president Kelley Robinson said in a press release.
"Local politics shapes our lives just as much as state or national politics does. Mayors and city councilors who take LGBTQ+ inclusion seriously build stronger communities, and in turn, their cities thrive."

In addition, the report found 121 cities now have more comprehensive transgender-inclusive laws than their respective states. More here from the Advocate.
