After being one-hit by the Tigers in Game 1 of the 2013 ALCS, the Red Sox found themselves in a similar situation in the eighth inning of Game 2.
Down 5-1 and struggling offensively again, the Red Sox had a 4 percent chance of winning and evening up the series, according to Baseball-Reference. But then the Sox started to get something going and loaded up the bases. Then David Ortiz happened.
With all of Fenway Park behind him, Ortiz took a first pitch changeup and sent it over the right field fence to tie the game at 5-5 and give the Red Sox new life.
Ortiz’s grand slam completely turned the series around, and the Red Sox went on to beat the Tigers in Game 2 and win the series in six games. A couple weeks later, the Sox were crowned World Series champions after defeating the St. Louis Cardinals.
