Colin Cowherd's anonymous NFL sources are giving him lots of dirt on Bill Belichick. Last week, the talk show host proclaimed Belichick is trying to sabotage Tom Brady, due to lingering resentment over the Jimmy Garoppolo trade. Prior to the bombshell claim, Cowherd boasted about keeping in touch with roughly 40 league sources and dining with an NFL general manager.
Surely, that must give him incredible insight into Belichick's state of mind.
On "The Herd" Monday, Cowherd unveiled his "mocked draft," saying he was already gearing up for ridicule. For once, he was right. According to Cowherd, who assures his audience all of his predictions are being discussed in NFL circles, the Patriots are going to package their first- and second-round picks to move up and take quarterback Sam Darnold with the No. 1 overall pick. The Browns, who desperately need a quarterback, would seemingly sign off on this.
"Belichick has never gone into a season without a young, viable backup," Cowherd explained. "Tom Brady is 40. He doesn't have one. No. 1, Sam Darnold becomes a Patriot. Bill Belichick has four picks, and the following year, he would give up another first. Why? Because he doesn't have a backup and Brady is 40."
It's uncertain where Cowherd's sources are getting their information, but it's probably not from the Patriots' depth chart. From 2004-2014, Brady's backups were Rohan Davey, Matt Cassel, 43-year-old Doug Flutie, 43-year-old Vinny Testaverde, Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett.
Lots of young studs there.
Last season, the Patriots dealt Garoppolo and brought back Hoyer to backup Brady. Cowherd, or his sources, apparently missed that.
"New England can give up picks. What they can't afford is a Brady injury at 40," he explained.

— Herd w/Colin Cowherd (@TheHerd) April 9, 2018With four picks in the first two rounds, it's possible the Patriots will select a quarterback early in the draft. But it is nonsensical to believe they would sacrifice their draft board to select Sam Darnold, who would sit behind Brady for at least one year. That move, given all of the other holes on the roster, would essentially be punting the 2018 season.
But then again, Belichick is apparently trying to spite Brady. It's all coming together now.
