San Diego newspaper asks if Don Orsillo is too goofy

It seems like some people in San Diego don't find Don Orsillo's goofy in-game antics all that amusing. Or at least, the folks who work at the city's largest newspaper, the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The UT has a poll on its website asking Padres fans if they want Orsillo and partner Mark Grant to tone down their act in the booth. So far, 84 percent of respondents say they enjoy the duo's breezy banter, with 16 percent asking the pair to either "tone it down a little" or rejecting their style outright.

While I have not caught many of Orsillo's Padres broadcasts –– and by "not many," I mean virtually none –– it appears as if he's maintained the affable personality that endeared him to so many Red Sox fans. FOX Sports San Diego regularly shares videos on Twitter of Orsillo gabbing with Grant, and belting out his trademark giggle.

At 39-54, the last-place Padres are one of the worst teams in the National League. Watching a bad baseball team through a six-month regular season can be an excruciatingly dull experience. Kudos to Orsillo for looking to liven things up, even if some presumably stodgy newspaper editors don't find it all that entertaining.
