Drew Rosenhaus outlines hypothetical scenario that could push Gronk to return to Patriots

Agent Drew Rosenhaus isn't ready to count out Rob Gronkowski returning to the Patriots just yet. In a conversation with NBC Sports' Peter King, Gronk's longtime representative said it wouldn't shock him if his client decided to come back sometime this season.

Then on Monday morning, Rosenhaus went more in-depth with ESPN's "Get Up," outlining a specific scenario in which Gronk would come back. "If the team was struggling or they needed him at some point next year, and let's just say hypothetically Tom Brady gave him a call and said 'Rob, I need you.' I wouldn't be shocked if he came back to play a few games," he said.

Maybe there will still be a "Decision" special to come. 

It's apparent Gronk wrestled with the decision to walk away, since he didn't make a formal commitment until Sunday. King writes some within the Patriots organization felt last week Gronkowski was going to retire, which led them to pursue free agent Jared Cook, who wound up signing with the Saints. According to Rosenhaus, Bill Belichick reached out to him on Thursday, asking if there was an update on his star tight end's status.

Gronk reportedly delivered the news to Patriots owner Robert Kraft on Sunday, shortly before posting his farewell Instagram message. 

It all started at 20 years old on stage at the NFL draft when my dream came true, and now here I am about to turn 30 in a few months with a decision I feel is the biggest of my life so far. I will be retiring from the game of football today. I am so grateful for the opportunity that Mr. Kraft and Coach Belichick gave to me when drafting my silliness in 2010. The people I have meet, the relationships I have built, the championships I have been apart of, I just want to thank the whole New England Patriots organization for every opportunity I have been giving and learning the great values of life that I can apply to mine. Thank you to all of Pats Nation around the world for the incredible support since I have been apart of this 1st class organization. Thank you for everyone accepting who I am and the dedication I have put into my work to be the best player I could be. But now its time to move forward and move forward with a big smile knowing that the New England Patriots Organization, Pats Nation, and all my fans will be truly a big part of my heart for rest of my life. It was truly an incredible honor to play for such a great established organization and able to come in to continue and contribute to keep building success. To all my current and past teammates, thank you for making each team every year special to be apart of. I will truly miss you guys. Cheers to all who have been part of this journey, cheers to the past for the incredible memories, and a HUGE cheers to the uncertain of whats next.

Tight end Dwayne Allen, who backed up Gronk for the last two seasons, told King it was "day-to-day" with the all-time great last year. The Patriots rode Gronkowski until the end, putting him out there for all 169 snaps in both the AFC championship and Super Bowl. He caught a 15-yard pass that set up the game-winning score in overtime in the AFC championship and also set up the Super Bowl-winning touchdown with a 29-yard reception late in the fourth quarter. 

When the season was on the line, Tom Brady once again went looking towards Gronk.

Earlier this month, Willie McGinest theorized Gronkowski could come back once he rests his body for a little bit. It seems like Rosenhaus has a similar theory.

Then again, maybe that's wishful thinking from Rosenhaus. He won't receive commission on any deals Gronk works out in Hollywood.
