East Bridgewater's high school's girls' basketball team won a game by 86 points. The 93-7 victory was so lopsided, the schools superintendent thought an apology was in order to its opponent in last week's state tournament game, Madison Vocational High School.
"This was an unfortunate situation and shouldn't be a reflection of our girls or the East Bridgewater Athletic Program," Liz Legault said, per Boston 25 News. "Both teams were excited for the first round of the playoffs and unfortunately they were not matched up well."
East Bridgewater's coach, Andrew MacDonald, declined comment to the Globe.
Parents who attended the blowout say East Bridgewater only had eight players, forcing its coach to play starters throughout the second half. It's apparent they did not slow down their play, despite the insurmountable lead.
The MIAA says no rules were broken in the affair. East Bridgewater, the fifth-seed, was eliminated Sunday following a 52-33 loss to the defending state champion, Archbishop Williams.
