Ex-Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo has spent the last two months looking for his lost English bulldog. But as it turns out, the dog was found dead inside of his trainer's apartment.
The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals found the dead body of the dog, Knox, in the closet of Amelia Ferriera's Cranston home. In June, Wrentham police reported Knox had gone missing during a walk with Ferriera, who's being charged with one count of obstruction and could face charges of animal cruelty. Ferriera later said Knox had gone missing from his crate.
The RISPCA sats Ferriera knew about Knox's whereabouts for some time, and hid them from Mayo and his wife. The couple posted an impassioned message on Instagram Monday, calling the trainer's purported actions "inhumane."
"Unfortunately, the answers we prayed for regarding Knox aren't ones we were ready to face," the post reads. "Knox has passed and his BODY WAS FOUND IN THE HOME OF THE OFFLEASH TRAINER. IT's disgusting and inhumane that a company full of "dog lovers" would hide a family pet IN A CLOSET FOR TWO MONTHS and compulsively lie and send us on a wild goose hunt and our kids on an emotional rollercoaster."
