The Celtics will become a much less talented team on the court if and when Kyrie Irving decides to sign elsewhere in free agency –– and right now, it looks like that is a "when." But with the addition of first-round pick Grant Williams, at least they've become a lot more scientifically savvy.
The C's selected the Tennessee forward with the No. 22 overall pick in the NBA Draft Thursday. While Williams' play offers plenty of promise –– he was a consensus 2018-19 All-America First Team selection –– he can immediately increase the scientific understanding of those who have been forced to listen to Irving's Earth-is-flat nonsense over the last two years.
In a pre-draft interview with the Stadium's Shams Charania, Williams emphatically dispels Kyrie's silliness. And Williams would know, since his mother is an engineer for NASA.
"With my mom, I don't really think of theories. I know for sure what's what. So it's nice to have that mindset," he said. "Kyrie's Earth-is-flat theory is just scientifically not true. That's the one thing I can debunk, because it's just not true at all."

— Stadium (@Stadium) June 21, 2019While Irving apologized last year at the Forbes Under 30 summit for saying the Earth is flat, he still didn't actually admit the Earth is round. Instead, he droned on about how he didn't realize the power of his own voice, and how he's actually a "smart-ass individual."
Kyrie's crossover will be missed, but his self-indulgence will not.
